Day 3
Rules:
- Everyone solders (with soldering iron or hot air) one component at a time while the computer is running
- If the computer restarts, or if the component is successfully removed, the next person takes his turn
- If the removal of a component makes the computer unusable (can no longer be booted), the game is over.
The rules are currently still expandable and will be extended.
Tips and tricks:
- Electrolytic capacitors and KerKos usually work without problems
- It doesn't work completely without electrolytic capacitors. One has to stay in...
- Peripheral interface ICs (RS232, Ethernet, etc.) are no longer needed for this purpose, so get rid of them ;-)
- For older graphics cards: Unsolder resistors, capacitors, transistors on the analog output stage from the VGA ... We no longer need all colors (vsync/hsync should be spared, otherwise no more picture ...)
- Graphics RAM usually also works (old cards), if several ICs are present, gives funny picture disturbances, but you can usually still recognize that the computer is still running.
- The CPU usually has 3-5 phases in the voltage regulator. If the computer tends to run idle, then 1-2 of them can be removed ;-)
