Edit Thanks to all who attended. For continued networking I created a matrix room: https://matrix.to/#/#chaos-schiesssport:glow.li
In queer, neurodivergent and leftist circles, admitting to an interest in shooting or firearm collecting can feel taboo. It’s understandable; this hobby is often dominated by cis-het macho men and individuals with unacceptable views. Yet, firearms have a unique appeal that many nerds would appreciate: intricate mechanics, endless customization, and a hands-on exploration of precision hardware. I've introduced many trans and otherwise queer friends to guns and they usually find them very fascinating when able to try them out in a non-hostile environment.
Initially, I had a lot of trouble finding a place were I myself felt comfortable. With my brightly coloured hair and good sense of fashion I clearly stand out in any "traditional" shooting club.
I've been going shooting regularly for a few years now - as a visibly queer person. My experiences have not only been positive. Unfortunately, some of the prejudices about this hobby are true. Nevertheless, I have found ways to make the whole thing bearable and even enriching.
In my session, I will talk about this and hope to exchange ideas and network with like-minded people. Because in the left bubble and the chaos community, I often feel alone with this hobby. But I can't imagine that I'm the only one.
